Yes, it was said that sometime in late october they found him on the road dead due to a self inflicted gunshot wound:'( R.I.P. Wesley Durden

  2. Kelly says:

Just saw that myself after watching the episode. Apparently, he died of a gun shot wound back in October of this year (based on my searching). So sad. 🙁

I was shocked to see the memorial to Wesley Durden on his death. So sad a man so young. Seeing the show week after week you feel like you get to know these contestants. Our condolences to his family and especially to his mother who he mentioned so many times on the show.

  4. KK's Mom says:

After 2 tours in Iraq, Wesley was found dead on the side of the road in October near Fort Bragg. It took a while before the media released that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He left behind a wife and 2 children. Such a horrible loss.

  5. Hannah says:

I for real died a little inside when I read that. I was like “WHATTT ?!” He lived so close to me too..

  6. Sam Sam says:

yes i just finished watching it and i was suprised with this he had a self inflected wound back in october. Thats very sad especially for his wife, son and daughter, and his mother. I wish his family strength. this is a little random that means the christmas episode was recorded in october then

  7. Daisy ♒☮♥ says:

Yes isn’t that awful. Sadly he was shot to death on October 27th.

  8. Mindless Enough says:

Scared me…. This man was a great man. Why would this happen? If he wasn’t eliminated than this wouldn’t have happened. Minerva should have got out. RIP ):

  9. DIANA R says:

This breaks my heart! I didn’t know it was self-inflicted until I read it here. My condolences to the family.

  10. Michele says:

Wow this is awful. It is sad that a man who survived two tours in Iraq die this way. I hope the police find what happened and who did this. I was devastated after seeing the memorial credit. Condolences go out to his family and friends.

  11. onewhoca says:

How terrible that he felt like he couldn’t go on with his life. Minerva should have been sent home instead of Wesley!!!! My prayers are for his wife, children and family members.

  12. Randy says:

Unfortunately you can’t be blaming “Cake Boss” for this tragic incident…. this man was was a Veteran of the US Army; As a member of the Armed Forces Member who has deployed, it is not easy going through the things that “WE” go through when we deploy… PTSD is a serious issue “WE” and “OUR” families have to deal with. Unfortunately it looks like this episode was that last straw that broke the camels back. RIP brother in Arms.

  13. Ariel says:

I researched and it says they filmed the finally in late september so they must have filmed the christmas in early summer

Am so sad:) with this news:( I’ve been watching this show to see him be the next great baker;) so sad:'(

  15. Confused says:

was it self inflicted or was he shot by someone else? Anyone have a recent article link?

  16. toon_dre says:… In another sad development, fellow “Next Great Baker” castmate Wesley Durden, 28, was shot and killed in Fayetteville, N.C., on Oct. 24. Known as “The Cake Sergeant,” he had been stationed at Fort Bragg after two tours in Iraq. Here’s the part that annoys ME…Braterva stayed and they sent the military man home around Christmas and Danny was dressed as Santa. What a Xmas present! Grinch stays Nice Guy goes. And here I thought they would save everyone in the spirit of the holidays. X( And the unfortunate part was had Wesley STAYED in the competition longer he might still be around today. With this season 2 of NGB I don’t think there will be a season 3. This season Buddy played favorites and he owes Tony an apology for the switch trick. And winning team or no if your not pulling your weight you DESERVE to go home. Nice work Buddy…Nice work. XP

No one can blame the show. There are so many soldiers that come back from war that never completely heal physically or emotionally. It is so sad that with all the resources out there he felt that suicide was the only answer. My condolences to his family.

  18. Sharon Bounds says:

As the wife of a veteran PTSD is very serious! Wesley never seemed quite motivated and “happy” on the show. I noticed that in the beginning of the show that he just never seemed quite right. I am praying for his family and may peace surround them at this terrible time. Please understand that medication and counseling is what it takes to help men and women suffering from PTSD. I don’t think “Cake Boss” caused this incident–it was built up over time.

  19. Natasha says:

This is so sad. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to his loved ones. Noone knows what is going on with someone else.

  20. luvtolol says:

i dont think he committed suicide JUST because he got eliminated… it was probably because he was a veteran and stuff. HOWEVER, crazy manerva deserved to go home.

  21. naynay says:

i was shocked to see that at the end of show..everything ive read leads to the same pts god bless him his family and his children. RIP…but am i the only one who thinks that was absolutly tasteless to do that not even a week before holidays? good job tlc and good job american italian family…shouldve done a memorial show b 4 holiday …i am no longer a fan of either….so cold

Hello all I have to agree with the wife of the solider. No matter how hard we try we cannot escape our fate and we have to realize that some of our friends and family cannot deal with that and chose to do something like take their own lives to remove the pain. The light was gone from his eyes during the whole show but I did think anything of it because I figured he was just that laid back. Wesley was clearly in some pain that he was trying to pacify with being on the show. When I was watching the show today my heart went out to him and his family. I did not know until I read some of the posts here what actually happened. No I do not think the show is responsible for Wesley’s death, but I do believe that other lady who had the “dizzy” spells should have gone home. My God bless the two baby girls he left behind and may his wife be filed with the spirit to get through this tough time.
